Course Description

Understanding the possibilities for connecting without heat opens up a huge range of possibilities for uniting a wide range of materials together.
Not being able to solder need not be limiting and this course is designed to help you discover techniques to encourage other possibilities for your jewellery work.
This course of exploring “cold connections” can be tailored to suit you.

Option 1
Working with the tutor on your own particular concept for the connections of specific materials, where you bring samples of your jewellery to work on and gain finesse in the required method.
Option 2
With tutor guidance explore connection possibilities and how these could work with your jewellery work in general. You’ll bring some sacrificial example of your style of work and use these as the basis for creating some samples of three or four chosen connection methods, such as:
-
Wire Rivets / Tube Rivets
-
Tabs
-
Screws
-
Hinges / Rotating links
-
Staples
-
T Bars
-
Hooks and Eyelets
-
Clasps / Catches
You will be using your existing fabrication techniques to practise the connection methods described, therefore to get the best results you’ll need to have an intermediate level of skill working in metal.
