Course Description
Introduction to Filigree Jewellery Course
This two day intensive course has been specially designed to introduce you to Filigree, the ancient craft of using fine silver or gold threads to create intricate and beautiful decorative designs within jewellery and objects. It has been described as 'captured air' which succinctly describes the delicate forms you can create using this technique.

On this course you will learn the skills required to start creating delicate filigree designs within your jewellery or silverware.

With fully guided tuition you will learn to:
-
Make your own filigree wire for use in your designs
-
Prepare and adapt your tools for working with filigree wire
-
Shape and manipulate filigree wire in to the desired forms and patterns of your design
-
Understand and practice the parameters for placing and building up a design in filigree wire within a silver frame
-
Solder filigree
-
Finish and polish your filigree work
-
Learn what to buy and where to purchase tools and materials to be adapted for filigree work
Course Duration
Although this course is two days as standard which we recommend, we can offer this course as a one day introductory course with content adjusted so that preparing the filigree wire and adapting tools will only be discussed in theory as opposed to trying as a practical element due to time restraints.

Materials: Silver is not included in the course fee because we cannot determine how much you will use for your practice designs on the day, therefore you pay the tutor directly for the Silver you use on the course. Expect to pay approximately £5 to £30 depending on the amount of silver you use.

Tools: will be provided for your use on the day. If you are completing a two day course you may pay for and keep the tools you adapt to work with at home.
Allow Approximately £10 for tools purchases which are optional.
This course is suitable for those who already have basic jewellery making skills.
