Course Description
The Argentium is one of the most important developments for Silver in recent times.
This amazing precious metal was invented in the UK by Master Silversmith Peter Johns in order to combat fire stain in Sterling silver, but its conception has brought many more benefits for Jewellers or Silversmiths who use Silver regularly, including resistance to tarnish.
Argentium Silver uses different alloys than Sterling Silver and therefore has different “At the Bench” working properties and this 6 hour course introduces Jewellers or Silversmiths to the best methods for workshop practise when using Argentium Silver.
Course content covers these areas:
-
Purity & Alloys
-
Durability (Work or Heat Hardening
-
Ductility compared to Sterling Silver
-
Fusing abilities
-
Design benefits
We recommend you make a simple piece of Jewellery of your own designs to understand the differences between using Argentium Silver and Sterling Silver. the design must be feasible to make within the 6 hours of the course duration.
NOTE: We do offer an online Argentium Consultancy Service for Companies, please contact us for details.
Materials: Silver is not included in the course fee because we cannot determine how much you will use for your practice designs on the day, therefore you pay the tutor directly for the Silver you use on the course. Expect to pay approximately £30-£50 depending on the amount of silver you use for your design or you may bring your own Argentium Silver.
This course is suitable for those who already have basic fine jewellery making skills.
