About
Melanie E is a highly respected and experienced Jewellery designer and Goldsmith based in London, who has been Director of The Association for Contemporary Jewellery.
Melanie’s extensive knowledge of jewellery making processes, working mainly in gold and gemstones, demonstrates an exciting collaboration of tradition, innovation and geometry which results in very fine contemporary jewellery.
Originally from Bermuda, where she began her training as a jeweller, Melanie continued her professional development in Canada, New York and in London at the prestigious Central St Martin's College of Art and Design where she completed an MA in Design and Jewellery, she is recognised as a leading designer by the esteemed Goldsmiths Company in London.
Melanie’s work involves various aspects of the jewellery trade from design through to manufacture and she also has a huge amount of experience facilitating creative and professional development in the Jewellery Industry which includes work on a collaborative project with Goldsmiths Institute and The Crafts Council which supported the creative development of emerging silversmiths and Jewellers. Her expertise in this area has also supported and complemented her work with The Society of Designer Craftsman, The Society of Jewellery Historians, and The Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths , where she has worked since 2007.
Melanie has worked on projects with a variety of well-known brands such as; Swarovski, Transitions Optical, Victoria & Albert Museum and Central Saint Martin’s College of Art & Design.
In Autumn 2010 she worked with the British Council in on an applied arts residency at Turquoise Mountain’s Institute for Afghan Arts and Architecture in Kabul, Afghanistan. As curator of a British Council exhibition she was involved in bringing contemporary jewellery and gemstones from Afghanistan to the UK, first to London and then to Edinburgh in Scotland.
Melanie is also an experienced tutor and is currently an Associate Lecturer on the MA Design programme at Central St Martin’s College of Art and Design.
In addition, Melanie is also one of the experts appointed to the The Bespoke Jewellery Training Company's Panel of Experts. Experts are invited to the Panel because of an exceptional level of skill in their field and/or their support of professional development and fine trade practises.

In 2021 Melanie was an invited exhibitor of Sotheby’s first-ever selling exhibition, ‘Brilliant and Black: A Jewellery Renaissance,’ dedicated to black jewellery designers.
