INSIDER Trade Tips | Identifying Platinum

How to identify Platinum Jewellery

If you have a piece of jewellery and you are not sure if it is Platinum or not, remove a small splinter of metal from the piece from somewhere it does not show.

Place this piece on a melting surface (soldering station) and try melting it.

  • If it melts into a ball straight away it is NOT platinum.

  • If it glows like a star it IS Platinum.
